Roughness is a condition parameter used to measure deviations from the intended longitudinal profile of a road surface, with characteristic dimensions that affect vehicle dynamics, ride quality and dynamic pavement loading.
Currently roughness is usually measured by sensors mounted on a human operated vehicle, but in the not too distant future this might be the roughness data is captured.
